Now that I know memorization is the goal, the white-knuckle morning madness has abated — a bit. Jellybean has become obsessed with the soundtrack to The Wizard of Oz. Growing up, I was creeped out by the flying monkeys and debated the Tin Man's sexual orientation, but the music was an afterthought: “We're off to see the Wizard, the wonderful Wizard of Oz…” and all that nonsense.

The Class 1A Spring Garden Panthers saw Alabama High School Athletics Association (AHSAA) realignment in name-change only, as they went from Region 6 to Region 7.

Williams, staff settled in and loving new school

This time last year, Centre Middle School Principal Renee Williams would have been justified if she felt a little run down. Less than a month after moving into a brand-new 85,000-square-foot facility, there was a constant line of delivery trucks bringing furniture, food and school supplies.

Family Care Center Thrift Store - at 800 West Main Street in Centre is open to the public Tuesday through Friday, featuring brand-name merchandise, the sale of which is used to help local families in need.

 

Basic Computer Classes - will be taught at the Cherokee Co. Public Library through Sept. 3 (9 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Mondays and Fridays). Advance sign-up required. Class costs $10. Call 256-927-5838 for info.

Annual Stephens Family Reunion - will be held Sept. 7 at Salem Baptist Church on County Road 8.
