Absentee ballots now available at circuit clerk's office

CENTRE — Cherokee County Circuit Clerk Dwayne Amos last week announced absentee ballots for the March 13 state primary election are available at his office through Thursday, March 8.

Voters who request an absentee ballot must meet one of the following requirements, according to a statement released last week by Amos:

_ The person must be out of the state or country on Election Day;

_ The person has a physical illness or infirmity that prevents traveling to the polls;

_ The person works a shift of at least 10 hours on Election Day which coincide with the hours of his or her polling place;

_ The person is enrolled as a student at an educational institution outside the county of his or her residence;

_ The person is a member of, or spouse or dependent of someone in the U.S. Armed Forces;

_ The person has been appointed as an election officer or poll watcher at a polling place other than his own.

Applications for absentee ballots are available Amos's office or online at www.alabamavotes.gov.

Completed absentee ballots must be returned to Amos's office no later than Monday, March 12. Ballots must be delivered in person or postmarked no later than this date.
