Amos releases info on absentee ballots STAFF REPORTS CENTRE — Cherokee County Circuit Clerk Dwayne Amos last week released a statement detailing the requirements that must be met by anyone wishing to submit an absentee ballot for the June 3 primary election. "Any qualified elector can vote using an absentee ballot, either through the U.S. Postal Service or in person," Amos said. "The application must be made in writing at least five days before the election, and they must meet certain requirements." Amos explained that absentee ballots are for people who will be out of town on June 3, as well as someone who has a physical illness or infirmity that prevents attendance at the polls, has to work during the time polls will be open, or is a member of the U.S. armed forces stationed overseas. "There are also other criteria that will allow someone
to vote absentee," Amos said. "Be sure you specify whether you want a Democratic or Republican ballot for the primary election," Amos said. "Also, if you have moved and have not updated your polling place you should contact the Board of Registrars and update your address prior to applying for an absentee ballot." For more information about obtaining an absentee ballot, contact Amos' office at 256-927-3340. The deadline to request a ballot is May 29. |
