Appalachian ends Tigers' season, 35-7

ONEONTA — For the second year in a row, Appalachian (10-2) ended Cedar Bluff's season in the second round of the Class 1A state playoffs. Kicking off the game to a great start, the Eagles established an early lead and eventually finished off the Tigers, 35-7.

Cedar Bluff senior quarterback Kyle Crane was held in check all night, completing only 5-of-18 passes for 72 yards and a touchdown.

Appalachian scored first on Dylan Schuman's 86-yard sprint with 6:24 remaining in the first quarter. Junior Guerra's extra point attempt was successful, giving the Eagles a 7-0 lead.

The Eagles increased their lead to 14-0 with Zac Blythe's 1-yard scoring dash with 2:07 left in the opening quarter.

Appalachian was able to stop Cedar Bluff on downs in the second quarter. Then, Eagles' quarterback Jeremy Hill hit Jacob Chappelle on a 22-yard touchdown pass. With 6:54 left to go in the first half, Appalachian's lead jumped to 21-0.

The Eagles scored again before the end of the half on Schuman's seven-yard run.

After a scoreless first half for Cedar Bluff, Crane connected with junior Marcus Reese in the third quarter. Hill closed out the scoring on a four-yard touchdown for Appalachian.

Jim Nelson led the Tigers with 65 yards rushing on seven carries.

Appalachian will host R.A. Hubbard Friday night.
