Tigers retain No. 5 spot; No. 1 Piedmont looks to go 10-0

By KURT DURYEA

There were only five total losses among the top 10 teams in classes 1A through 5A—and all but one of those losses came at the hands of another top 10 team. The only team to lose to a non-ranked opponent was T.R. Miller, dropping them from No. 2 to No. 7 in Class 3A.

Cedar Bluff (8-0) defeated Spring Garden 41-14 and remained at No. 5 in Class 1A. The Tigers make another cross-county trip this week for their final regular season game. The Class 1A Region 7 champions tangle with the Wildcats of Sand Rock (5-4) Friday night. Sand Rock (Class 2A Region 7) defeated Ider last week to secure a playoff berth.

Collinsville (8-1) moved up to No. 8 in Class 1A thanks to Keith’s (8-1) loss to Maplesville (8-1).  The Panthers have a home finale Thursday against non-region foe White Plains.

Piedmont, the No. 1 team in Class 3A, looks to remain undefeated Friday night at Class 4A Lincoln.

Fort Payne (9-0) rolled past Scottsboro 45-7 and remained secure in the No. 3 spot in Class 5A. The Wildcats are at James Clemens (6A) to wrap up their fourth perfect regular season since 2006.

In other area games this week Gaylesville will host Ohatchee Thursday night. On Friday, Spring Garden travels to 1A Talladega County Central. Cherokee County wrapped up their regular season with a 36-14 victory over Hokes Bluff.

Next Wednesday, we’ll go over the ASWA final poll and the week one playoff matchups for all prep teams inside The Post coverage area.
