Cherokee County (3-2, 2-1) lost a close non-region game to Cleburne County Friday night, 28-20, and fell out of the top ten in Class 4A. Undefeated Fairview makes its first appearance in the poll, replacing the Warriors. Cherokee County meets the third-ranked North Jackson Chiefs (5-0, 3-0) at Bobby Joe Johnson Field Friday night.

Piedmont continued its hot start by edging eighth-ranked Glencoe, 13-12 in overtime. Weaver (2-3, 2-2) will be the next road stop for the Bulldogs, still ranked No. 3 in Class 3A. Clay County was drummed out of the top ten after they were hammered by 2A Lineville, 41-6.

Westbrook Christian (5-0, 4-0) defeated Coosa Christian and remained at No. 4 in Class 2A. Region 6 members Fyffe and Ider also won, but the Red Devils slipped to No. 8 as Lineville hopped over them. Ider remains ninth in this week’s poll.

Cedar Bluff (4-1, 3-0) and undefeated Collinsville both had impressive wins in week five but are still caught in traffic.  The Tigers and Panthers will tangle in a Class 1A marquee matchup Friday night at Bruce Field in Cedar Bluff.

After making a pre-season showing Gaylesville (4-1, 3-0) had disappeared from the Class 1A poll following a week one loss. The Trojans are back on the radar screen after last week’s 6-0 shutout of Ragland. Spring Garden will make the cross-county trip to Trojan Stadium this week.

In 6A Gadsden (4-1, 3-0) dropped two spots to No. 6 after a 33-10 setback to top-ranked Hoover. It’s back to Region 7 play for the Titans, as they host Clay-Chalkville (3-2, 2-1).

The Class 5A top ten may as well be playing musical chairs. Three weeks ago, three ranked teams suffered losses. Two weeks ago, three more teams fell. Last week, every team in the top six lost. That leaves the Fort Payne Wildcats (5-0, 4-0) as the only undefeated team in the classification. The Wildcats landed solidly at No. 8 this week after pounding Cullman 36-9. Fort Payne travels to Boaz (3-2, 2-1) for a key Region 7 contest.
