Post's Facebook friends share their BCS game experiences

By ROY MITCHELL

THE INTERNET — Last Monday, the Crimson Tide flooded the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans, washing in a new college football champion.

By toppling Louisiana State 21-0, the University of Alabama claimed its second national title in three years. Before Crimson Tide fans even began filing out of the Big Easy Tuesday morning, The Post tossed this question to its 5,800-plus Facebook followers: “What were some of your experiences watching or attending last night's BCS title game?”

Felisha Cleland from Collinsville made the trip to the Superdome and soon responded to our query.

“We were there!” She posted to Facebook. “It was the most amazing and unique atmosphere we have ever been a part of. One of my favorite memories is being a part of the sea of crimson that flooded the streets of New Orleans after the game.”

Also attending the big game was Gaylesville resident Stacy Teague.

“We encountered some very rude fans before the game, but most of them got very quiet after kickoff,” She posted. “Most LSU fans left early.”

Stacy also partook in the subsequent street celebration and noted, “All you could see after the game in the streets of New Orleans was crimson and white. So many LSU fans turned on their coach and quarterback and even took their flags down from their balconies. I am so proud to be a Bama fan!”

Many local Crimson Tide fans couldn't attend the “beat-down in the Bayou,” yet they still felt pride in their connection to the University.

Brittney Motes from Cedar Bluff minced no words when she related her excitement about Alabama's big win.

“The game was one of the greatest experiences in my life,” she posted. “My one-year-old was watching it and was so excited! We did not have to be there to feel the love. [The Crimson Tide] represented for their state and their fans! They have done so much for our state on and off the field! I am so proud to be a part of the 'Bama nation!”

B.J. Lyle, who lives in Piedmont, took breaks during the game. She later explained on Facebook.

“Since we TiVo everything, we were watching the delayed, recorded game. We just couldn't wait long enough,” she said. “We started watching for it not to catch up with the actual game. We would watch a while. Then we would take a break. Then we would go back and watch some more. The way Alabama played was nothing short of awesome!”

The low-scoring affair may have seemed dull to some viewers, including like Kathy Walker from Cedar Bluff.

“I watched the first half and fell asleep,” she posted. “I'll stay awake next time.”

Auburn fan Michele Boswell, a Cedar Bluff resident, even managed to put aside her usual loyalties for long enough to watch the title game.

“I am the only Auburn fan from a six-member family, growing up with only 'Bama fans around me,” she wrote in response to our question on Facebook. “But, I must say those 'Bama players played their hearts out last night, and I am very proud to have been part of the audience. Alabama absolutely earned that title, and I'm proud to be an Alabamian.”

Still, Boswell couldn't resist firing a parting shot.

“On the other hand, War Eagle!”
