Centre native Alan Beckett named Region 7 Coach of Year

COLLINSVILLE — Centre native Alan Beckett was named the Coach of the Year in Class 1A Region 7 last week for leading the Collinsville Panthers to its first region title since 1999.

Voters also chose a total of 54 players from seven schools to the 2010 All-Region team.

Beckett, the son of former Cherokee County High School baseball coach Bobby Beckett, coached the Panthers to a 9-2 record, losing to Ragland in the final week of the regular season before a loss in the opening round of the ASHAA playoffs ended their season. Beckett's career record in four seasons at Collinsville is 24-18.

Beckett also placed 12 players on the All-Region team, including Offensive Most Valuable Player Nathan Coker.

Other Collinsville players on the All-Region team were Ryan Chamblee, Quintin Coker, Tray Reed, Josh Gogus, Jesse Chandler, Tyler Tidmore, Curtis Williams and Lamond Sumpter. Honorable mentions for the Panthers were Luis Perez, Shon McElrath and Logan Sharpe.
