Save Weiss Lake meets with Alabama Power

CENTRE —  During last week's Cherokee County Board of Education meeting, board members approved numerous personnel actions for the 2012-2013 school year.

At Centre Elementary School, Skylar Ray was hired as the new physical education teacher with coaching responsibilities. The support placement position for in-school suspension aide went to Jill Chamlee.

Centre Middle School's library aide, Brenda Whorton, has been transferred to office aide. Jessica Walker will be the new sixth grade language arts teacher. The eighth grade language arts teacher will be Christina Solomon.

Zachary Searels will be a half-time math teacher at the middle school; he'll spend the other half of his day at Cherokee County High School. Michael Brown will be the new band director for the middle school and high school. Brown was hired to replace the former band director, Nathan Prather, who resigned.

Also for Centre schools, Keith Cofield was named physical education aide at CMS. Frederic Taylor will be the new in-school suspension aide. Postings for a library aide and a CNP worker remain open.

Cedar Bluff will have two new teachers this fall – Heather Bradley will teach secondary math and Warner Smith will teach general science.

Sand Rock's Kenny Beck has been moved from Title I aide to in-school suspension aide. Also, Anna Denney, Wendi Tensley and Paul Hawk were hired to teach at Sand Rock.

Gaylesville will have two new aides this fall. Donna Young will help out in the office and Regina Steel will be an instructional aide.

Spring Garden will have a new bus driver, Robert Jones.

The only job posting that remains unfilled is the assistant principal's position at the Career and Technology Center. That opening has been posted.
