Man shot, killed at local campground STAFF REPORTS CENTRE — Cherokee County Sheriff Jeff Shaver released a statement Wednesday regarding a fatal shooting that took place Tuesday evening at a campground near Cedar Bluff. According to Shaver, deputies from his office, along with investigators, Cherokee EMS and Coroner Don Rogers responded to a call of shots fired at Round Mountain Campground around 8:15 p.m. yesterday. When they arrived, they found 27-year-old Jonathan Lee Waldrop, Cedar Bluff, dead of a gunshot wound. Rogers declared Waldrop dead at the scene, Shaver said. Shaver said there was apparently an altercation between Waldrop and his father that escalated and got out of control. He said the father, who was brought to the sheriff's department to make a statement, was distraught over the incident. Shaver said District Attorney Mike O'Dell's office was notified. He said evidence gathered from the scene will likely be presented to a grand jury to determine if charges are warranted.
