Candidate Profile: Tina Gordon

STAFF REPORTS — Retired NASCAR driver Tina Gordon has announced her candidacy for a seat on the Cherokee County Commission.

Gordon, who lives in Cedar Bluff, owns a business and also acts as spokeswoman for regional furniture outlet Sticks-N-Stuff. She attended junior high school in Cherokee County before moving, and then returned to the area in 1994. Gordon said she loves living in the county and is seeking the District 3 seat because she wants to get involved in "keeping Cherokee County a better place to live."

"I know there are a lot of important issues to the residents of Cherokee County," she told The Post. "I feel one is bringing in industries and jobs to the county. I will work with the Chamber of Commerce to bring jobs."

Gordon said she also wants to become involved in improving educational opportunities for the children of Cherokee County, and supporting law enforcement agencies and fire departments.

"I want to make Cherokee County a safer place to live," she said. "If I am elected I will work hard and be honest for all the people of the county."

Gordon will face Lanny Starr and current Dist. 3 Commissioner Elbert St. Clair in the June 3 Democratic primary.
