CENTRE — There will be a special called meeting of the Cherokee County Commission Wednesday, Nov. 3 at 10 a.m., County Administrator Tim Burgess informed The Post Friday afternoon.

Burgess said the meeting is being called so the commissioners can vote to approve a single asbestos survey in advance of the demolition of the old county jail facility and Cherokee County Courthouse annex.

“It was a consensus among the many contractors and the architect … that the county should get a single survey rather than every contractor getting one,” he said. “In the interest of fairness to everyone, the Commission is going to meet and approve this.”

Opening of bids for the demolition job have been delayed until Dec. 9, in order to allow for the survey— which will determine a fair price to handle all asbestos found inside the structures — to be conducted.

The meeting will be held in the Commission chambers in the County Administrative Building.
