By Kurt Duryea

CENTRE — Adam Weaver recently captured his second straight Cherokee County Country Club Men's Match Play Championship with a 4-and-3 decision over former club champion Kim Nichols.

Weaver closed out Nichols on the 15th hole and went on to card an 8-under-par 63 for the round.

Weaver, a former Cedar Bluff football standout, is now the course supervisor at the Country Club. Weaver joins a handful of multi-year champions.

"Last year I was just excited to win it and have my name on the plaque as a club Champion,” Weaver said. “But, it's great to repeat and to know your name is going to be mentioned with some other really great golfers that have repeated as club champion."

Steve Baker and Johnny Bentley combined for a 7-under-par 64 to win the Senior Scramble held at the Cherokee County Country Club Aug. 9.

Baker and Bentley edged out the Trammell brothers, Pete and Bill, in a score card playoff as they also turned in a sizzling 64. A total of 26 teams competed in the 50-and-over event, which rotates venues between Centre, Lafayette, Ga., and Pine Hill and Stonebridge, both in Rome, Ga.

Ron McCellan and Dennis Reaves (66) topped the second flight with Gary Burchett and Mackey Moates in second, and the team of Billy Mack Garrett and Larry Guffey finished third.

Clarence Lowe and Tom Clemens took top honors in the third flight with a 69. One stroke behind were the duo of Jay Myrick and Renae Coley.

Wayne Adrian and Jerry Hylton's 1-over-par took the top prize in the fourth flight. Linda Payne and Eva Trammell were runners-up with a 73.
