CENTRE — Thursday’s recount in the Republican gubernatorial primary yielded no change in the vote totals for candidates Robert Bentley and Tim James, a spokeswoman for Probate Judge Melvyn Salter said Friday morning.

James, the son of former governor Fob James, requested a statewide recount earlier this week after finishing third to Bentley in the June 1 GOP primary by 167 votes. Bradley Byrne got the most votes and already has a spot in the July 13 runoff.

Following Thursday’s recount, Bentley still had the same number of votes (400) as initially reported; James’ total of 292 also stayed the same.

Byrne (248) and former Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice Roy Moore (399) each had one vote added to their initial total.

Statewide as of Friday morning, it appears that Bentley will retain second place and compete against Byrne, the former two-year college system chancellor, in the runoff.
