Gadsden State Community College has released its calendar of events for January 2011, which begins with the school reopening Jan. 3 and Spring Semester registration Jan. 5-6. The first day of class is Jan. 7, 2011.

The one-week drop-add period will run from Jan. 7-13, and the Cardinals basketball team resumes play during that time, with a game against Wallace Selma at Beck Field House in Gadsden on Jan. 8 at 1 p.m. (women) and 3 p.m. (men).

Deadline for homecoming favorites applications is Jan. 13. The Cardinals men and women host Sheldon State Jan. 15 beginning at noon.

All campuses of Gadsden State will be closed Monday, Jan. 17 in observance of the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday.

Homecoming court elections will be held Jan. 18-20, and homecoming queen selections will be held Jan. 24-26.

The college will host performances of "Phantom of the Opera" at the Wallace Fine Arts Hall Jan. 26-31.
