Gadsden State celebrating Community College Month in April

GADSDEN — April is National Community College Month and Gadsden State is celebrating with a variety of activities for students and the community.

The month began with a proclamation presentation by the Cherokee County Commission. Other activities have included the International Food Festival, participation in the Noble Street Festival, M*A*S*H* at the McClellan Center and Ayers Campus, Red Cross blood drives, Community Agencies Ready to Engage Fair, Spring Employment Opportunity Fair, and Honor’s Day programs in Gadsden and Anniston.

More activities and opportunities are scheduled for students and community members to enjoy including Cardinal Tuesday for Cherokee faculty and staff will be April 26 and Gadsden State Career Coaches will sponsor Careers in Action Day (CIA Day) at Emma Sansom Middle School April 28.

On April 29, the Gadsden Chapter of IAAP will celebrate Administrative Professionals Week with a program at the Valley Street Campus Student Center featuring guest speaker Josh Hinds, and students from Cherokee County will be entertained by the Gadsden State Show Band, Ensemble and Southern Belle Dancers at the Cherokee Arena. Bilingual Storytime will take place at the Gadsden Public Library on April 30.

Rep. Craig Ford (D-Gadsden) will throw out the first pitch during the Lady Cardinals softball game at 1 p.m. at the Gadsden State Softball Complex.

At the beginning of the Cardinal baseball game Barry Stevenson, a lifetime supporter of Gadsden State baseball, and Mac Helms will be the honorary pitcher and catcher. The baseball game begins at 1:00 p.m. at the Gadsden State Coy Armstrong Baseball Field.
