Student from Sand Rock among winners at competition

GADSDENGadsden State Community College students continued their reputation for excellence at the Alabama SkillsUSA competition held recently.

Eleven gold medals, three silver medals and five bronze medals were awarded to students from the Ayers, East Broad and Valley Street Campuses.  The gold medal winners will now advance to the national competition which will be held in Kansas City, June 19-24.  Gadsden State has competed successfully on the national level for more than a decade, and this is the first year to have a gold medal winner in Civil Engineering Technology.

“We are extremely proud of all our students who competed in the state SkillsUSA competition,” said Tim Green, dean of technical education and workforce development. “Their dedication to excellence is evident as is that of their instructors who are preparing the champions of tomorrow’s workforce.”

The individual gold medal winners include: Haley Heishman, Sand Rock (Job Interview).  SkillsUSA is the national organization for college/postsecondary technical students enrolled in trade, technical, and skilled service profession instructional programs including allied health occupations, which represents more than 300,000 students in 130 different occupational areas.
