Kiwanis Club hosts author of book about Ford

Staff Reports

Last Wednesday the Kiwanis Club hosted author Clifton P. Lambreth, whose book about Ford Motor Company will soon become a film.

The meeting began at noon at the Chamber of Commerce office on the campus of Gadsden State-Cherokee in Centre. After a meal provided by Sageberry Catering, Kiwanis Club chairman Dwayne Amos yielded the podium to Lambreth, who wrote "Ford and the American Dream" in 2007.

Lamberth entertained the crowd of over 30 members and guests with his story of a 23-year career at Ford Motor Co. that he was afraid would come to an end when he wrote the book.

"I sent the first book to Alan Mulally, the recently-hired CEO of Ford, and took a week's vacation," Lambert said. "I was afraid he'd fire me after he read it so I wanted to get in some paid vacation time."

Instead, Mulally invited Lambert to lunch at the home of Henry Ford and "took notes, listened and asked questions." He said he thought right away that Ford might be able to weather the country's economic troubles if the new man in charge was willing to listen to others and try some new ideas.

Lambert said his book can be an inspiration to anyone or any business that finds itself in a challenging position. The book, "Ford and the American Dream" can be purchased online at www.executivebooks.com.
