The Cherokee County Lady Warriors softball team picked up their 38th win of the season Saturday evening as they captured the North Central Regional Championship.  The Lady Warriors swept through the regional tournament opening with a 4-0 win over West Point, followed by a 1-0 nail-biter against Saks.

Cherokee County then dropped Alexandria 3-0 before bagging Saks in the championship 13-3.

The Lady Warriors were led by Regional MVP Lauren Millsaps. Millsaps picked up three wins, shutting out her opponents in every outing. Along the way, the MVP held Alexandria to three hits, West Point to just one and fired a no-hitter against Saks.

Malorie Rosser earned the win in the Championship game while Kaitlyn Griffith provided the offensive firepower,  going 3-for-3 with two doubles and a home run.

Cherokee County will travel to Montgomery's Lagoon Park May 14-15 to battle in an eight-team, double-elimination tournament that will determine the AHSAA 4A state champion. The Lady Warriors’ first game will be Friday at noon against Asford.

In Class 1A, the fifth ranked Spring Garden Lady Panthers eliminated Gaylesville from the regional tournament.  Spring Garden then went on to face South Lamar, but came up short by a score of 3-1.  South Lamar claimed 1A Regional runner-up honors and advances to the final eight in Montgomery.

In 2A action, the Lady Wildcats of Sand Rock were edged by Ranburne 7-6 to finish their season at 18-10.

In the 1A boys baseball, the AHSAA state playoff run for the Cedar Bluff Tigers was ended in the semi-finals by Shoals Christian. The Flame took two games from the Tigers to gain a championship series berth. Nevertheless it was a great season for the Cedar Bluff boys with the run deep into the playoff’s capping a 23-win season.
