By SCOTT WRIGHT

CEDAR BLUFF — Every year, carloads of people from across northeast Alabama and northwest Georgia converge on this tiny town on the Saturday closest to Independence Day.

This year, that day falls on July 2, and officials and residents in Cedar Bluff are busy getting ready the annual influx of thousands.

Saturday's all day event begins at 9 a.m. with a special program honoring the 50th anniversary of Weiss Lake, the county's top tourism attraction. Alabama Power and Chamber of Commerce officials will be in attendance under a huge pavilion on the town park. County residents who helped construct the dam from 1958-61 will be honored guests at the ceremony.

As always, there will be plenty for the kids to do at Liberty Day. A series of inflatables will be set up near Town Hall, and there will be train rides and puppet shows throughout the day.

The Cedar Bluff Volunteer Fire Department will be selling barbecue plates, and a wide selection of vendors will offer everything from lemonade and ice cream to burgers and fries.

Live entertainment will be offered under the main pavilion all day on Saturday, with local cloggers and musicians. Other acts scheduled to perform include Three Rivers Jazz, Weiss Lake Bluegrass, Wade Trammel, and 7 Day Ride. Running Wild will take to the stage at 7:15 p.m. and play until the lakefront fireworks show begins at 9 .m. WEIS-AM 990 will simulcast patriotic music throughout the 13-minute fireworks presentation.
