CENTRE – Cherokee County Public Library Director Malinda Wood invites readers of all ages to take part in this year’s Summer Reading Program.

“We offer 6-7 programs every year and about 60-100 kids participate in each program,” Wood told The Post.

Wood encouraged anyone who is interested to visit the library on Fridays from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., beginning June 4, to take part in weekly reading programs.

On June 4, readers can learn how to earn great reading prizes and create a cool craft. The following Friday, an exhibit from the McWane Center in Birmingham will make a splash with water-based science experiments.

The next week, readers will learn about water safety with Kirk Duryea. Then, on June 25, Barber’s Dairy will at the library to talk about their products and services.

The first Friday in July, readers will “Sail in for a Picnic” at Ethel Morrison Park, then browse a visiting Bookmobile.

Finally, on July 9, the library will feature a luau and special guest.

The Library also offers Free Drawing Classes for artists ages 8-14. Workshops are held on Thursdays from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Aspiring artists should bring a No. 2 pencil and 8-by-10 drawing pad. (Parents are expected to attend.)

On June 17, the library’s Brown Bag reading program resumes, with registered nurse Kelly Gardner. Participants are asked to bring their lunch; drinks and dessert will be provided.

The program will continue on the third Thursday of the month throughout the summer.

For more information on the Cherokee County Public Library program schedule, call Malinda Wood at 256-927-5838 or stop in 310 Mary Street in Centre. All programs are free to attend.
