Rep. Richard Lindsey speaks out against GOP plan

PRESS RELEASE

MONTGOMERY – Rep. Richard Lindsey (D-Centre) last week criticized the Republican redistricting plan that splits Cherokee County.

“This is a terrible plan, which passed after 6 people on the conference committee re-wrote the reapportionment bill,” Lindsey said Friday. “Their plan divides Cherokee County into two congressional districts.”

Under the new redistricting plan, the northern 20 percent of Cherokee County will be in the 4th Congressional District, which is represented by Robert Aderholt.  The rest of the county will be in the 3rd District, represented by Rep. Mike Rogers.

Lindsey voted against the plan, and worked for its defeat. However, the new Republican supermajority prevailed on final passage of the congressional plan.

“I am extremely disappointed that this passed. It is not a fair plan, and it will be detrimental to Cherokee County,” said Lindsey.
