Paddle Weiss Lake is June 24-27

CENTRE — The Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce and The Alabama Scenic River Trail will host the 2nd Annual Paddle Weiss Lake June 24-27. Last year over 60 paddlers participated.

Registration will begin June 24 at 5 p.m. at Driftwood Campground on Alabama Highway 273 near Leesburg. Paddlers may also register online at www.alabamascenicrivertrail.com.

There will be a paddle trip each day to different parts of Weiss Lake. Friday’s trip will be from Driftwood to the mouth of Little River and back. Saturday’s trip will be about 15 miles, putting in at Gaylesville on the Chattooga River, and will include a stop at historic Cornwall Furnace. Sunday's shorter trip will be a run up to Yellow Creek Falls and back.

Saturday evening a catered meal and entertainment will be provided. Participants must furnish their own food for all other meals.

Participants must have a flat-water appropriate boat, life jacket and a spare paddle. For more information please contact the Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce at 256-927-8455.
