2006 Post Photo Patrol Entrants

Cedar Bluff resident Sizefredo Almeida recently traveled to his home country of Brazil and visited a post-Civil war-era settlement called Americana. Almeida remembered to pack along a copy of The Post and in doing so became the first entrant in the 2006 Post Photo Patrol contest. We will again give away a $1,000 first prize in December. Deadline to enter is Dec. 7.

 

Jake Rose, Gaylesville, is pictured with his cousin, PV2 Gareth C. Sweatman, 369th Co., during graduation ceremonies at Fort Benning, Ga.

 

Trudy Lowe, center, and her children, Dessie and Beau, traveled to Hershey, Pa. in January and had their photo taken in the doorway of the Hotel Hershey.

 

Pat Culberson, Centre, got a little creative with this Hershey Co. "official" factory worker identification badge.

 

James and Teresa Burkhart, Leesburg, took along a copy of The Post during a recent visit to the Red Cross Disaster Operation Center in Washington, D.C.

 

Annie Ruth Wyatt and Gloria Rooks, both of Centre, took a cruise to Jamaica along with 100 other friends and family members -- and a copy of The Post.

 

Rebecca Hester, Sand Rock, recently traveled to Central America with a group from the Congregational Holiness Church. During he stay, Hunter visited Panama. While there, she toured the Panama Canal.

Sgt. David C. Eberhart, Dallas, Ga., holds a copy of The Post inside one of Saddam Hussein's former palaces in Baghdad, Iraq. Also in the picture is Kabob the sheep, who Eberhart reports was the guest of honor at dinner later in the evening. Sgt. Eberhart's father-in-law, Patrick Grunwald, lives in Centre.

Clarence and Marty Lowe, Centre, recently traveled to Honolulu, Hawaii, then took a cruise to all the islands, including a visit to Oahu and Pearl Harbor.

 

Seven members of the New Bethel Baptist Church, in the Key community, recently traveled to Mississippi to help with Hurricane Katrina relief efforts. They also remembered to carry along a copy of The Post and are now entered to win the $1,000 first place prize in the 2006 Post Photo Patrol contest. Mark (left), Joel and Amos Snead, all Centre natives, traveled to New Orleans March 17-19 to visit relatives. While there, they also toured the Lower Ninth Ward and witnessed firsthand the devastation left by Hurricane Katrina. During a day spent helping Habitat for Humanity, the trio posed with a copy of The Post and are now entered to win our $1,000 first place prize.

 

Mark Weaver and Julie Akins, Cedar Bluff, traveled to Savannah, Ga., in mid-March and stopped off to dine at Food Network personality Paula Dean's The Lady and Sons restaurant. Mark told us the line to get in the place -- visible snaking along the sidewalk behind the couple -- is sometimes up to two hours long.

Lona Beuckens, Centre, recently traveled to Hoffman, Minn. Obviously, the lifeguard was "off" duty the day she stopped beside a frozen lake with four feet of snow resting atop the ice.

 

Julie Barron, Centre, an eighth grader at Centre Middle School, recently traveled to New York with her parents, Kim and Gary Barron. During the visit, Julie and her copy of The Post plopped down behind the anchor desk at NBC Studios.

 

Brian Sims, Leesburg, recently spent some time at Talladega Superspeedway in Eastaboga. During his visit to the winner's circle, Brian whipped out his copy of The Post and posed for this photograph with, in his words, "the only paper that belongs in victory lane."

 

Jessica Robinson, Forney community, recently traveled to Gatlinburg, Tenn., with her parents, Sheldon and Sherry Robinson. They took along a copy of The Post and stopped off at Cooter's in the Smokies to have this picture taken alongside the famous General Lee.

 

Carollee Collins, Spring Garden, and Sheila Angel, also from Cherokee County, took a Red Hat cruise to Mexico with 10 other Red Hatters. This photo was taken during the group's pajamas party in Casa Mya, Mexico, aboard the Royal Caribbean ship "Grandeur of the Seas."

 

Ray and Donna Brown, Leesburg, visited Mole National Park in Ghana, West Africa, and remembered to pack a copy of The Post for their trip. Pictured are the Browns with (left to right): Joseph Tetteh, Edward Afriyie, Samuel Akpo and Joseph Gasu. Donna told us their new friends were very excited to learn their photo was going to make the local paper.

 

Geraldine and Jerry Reynolds, Leesburg, recently visited the Great Northwest and stopped to pose with The Post in front of Grand Teton, in Wyoming.

 

Ronnie Morris and his wife, Lovella, Centre, recently traveled to Lacrosse, Va. Ronnie says they never forget to take along a copy of The Post.

 

Charles and Jean Keith, Leesburg, recently spent some time in Scotland, Wales and England. They stopped their trek long enough to have their photo taken with The Post in front of the cog railroad which transports tourists to Mt. Snowdon in Wales.

 

Carl and Jeanette Patterson, Leesburg, spent their 46th wedding anniversary in Hannibal, Missouri, the childhood home of Samuel Langhorne Clemens (better known as Mark Twain). Above, the Pattersons pose with a copy of The Post in front of the steamboat "Mark Twain."

 

Shaun McElhaney, Fort Payne, and his wife Lisa recently traveled to Las Vegas for their second honeymoon, where Lisa got a shot of Shaun standing with his back to the famous Strip near their hotel, the New York, New York Hotel and Casino. The couple are now entered to win the $1,000 first place prize in the 2006 Post Photo Patrol Contest.

 

Debby Towers, Chattanooga, Tenn., traveled to the Florida Keys in May 2006 and posed with her Post, a flamingo and a beautiful sunset. She is now entered to win the $1,000 grand prize.

 

Dina Brewster, Sand Rock, recently traveled to Memphis, Tenn., and posed with The Post in front of Graceland, the home of Elvis Presley. Thank you for thinking of us, Dina. Thankyouverymuuuuch!

 

Joseph Wiggins (left) and James Harris, Centre, recently traveled to the Dukes Fest in Nashville, Tenn. The young men remembered to take along a copy of The Post during their time at the State Fairgrounds in Nashville, and are now entered to win the $1,000 first place prize in the 2006 Post Photo Patrol Contest.

 

Belinda and Bobby Clanton, Sand Rock, recently celebrated their 19th wedding anniversary with a seven-night cruise to Alaska. Along the way, the ship stopped at Juneau, Skagway, and Icy Strait Point. Sherry and Robert Anderson, Cedar Bluff, recently traveled to Maui, Hawaii. Here, the couple pose in front of Haleakala Volcano National Park, which is 10.023 feet above sea level. Even at that great height, the Andersons remembered to get out their copy of The Post.

Ed Duke, Lindale, Ga., recently visited several points of interest throughout the west, including Yellowstone National Park and Glacier National Park. Mr. Duke remembered to pack along a copy of The Post.

 

Angie and Chris Carden, Centre, recently traveled to Hawaii, visting Honolulu, Maui and Kona.

 

Renae and Carol Coley, Leesburg, recently vacationed in Las Vegas and remembered to take along a copy of The Post. Here, the couple stand in front of the entrance to the casino inside the Las Vegas Hilton.

 

Anna Lindsey, Centre, daughter of Richard and Johna Lindsey, participated in a New Year's Day parade in London with the UCA All-Star Cheerleaders from across the United States. Anna is pictured with a guard at Clarence House, the residence of Prince Charles and Lady Camilla.

 

Cait Kelly, Leesburg, took a few minutes as she skied behind her dad's boat on Weiss Lake to flip through her favorite weekly newspaper.

 

Alex Moon, Centre, attended Duke Basketball Camp at Duke University in Durham, N.C., June 17-21. During his time there, Alex took a few minutes to have his picture taken with legendary Duke head basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski and The Post. Trevor Perry and Colin Perry of Centre also attended the basketball camp.

 

Lurline Brooks, Centre, and her friend Betty Reaves, Birmingham, posed for this picture while sporting a copy of The Post during their recent visit to Juneau, Alaska. Brooks reports that the two friends flew in an old-fashioned floatplane to visit five glaciers before stopping off at the authentic "Toku Glacier Lodge" (background) for a feast of king salmon.

 

Patsy Richardson, Cedar Bluff, recently traveled throughout the American West, including visits to the Grand Canyon, Meteor Crater in Arizona, Jackson Hole, Wyoming, and the Badlands of South Dakota.

 

Kathy, Amanda and Oliver Griffin recently attended Six Flag over Georgia and were clever enough to take along a copy of The Post for their ride down the log flume. The Griffins are from Sand Rock.

 

Pam and Jay Myrick, Centre, recently took a mission trip to the Mididi rainforest in Ixiamas, Bolivia. They remembered to pack along a copy of The Post and are now entered to win $1,000 in the 2006 Post Photo Patrol Contest.

 

Jake and Brooke Smith, Gaylesville, and their dog, Belle, visited the Civil War battlefield in Chickamauga, Ga., on the way home from a trip celebrating their one-year wedding anniversary. The trio pose here in front of the U.S. 15th Infantry monument.

Aime'e Kerr, McCord's Crossroads community, and Darlene Graham, Pollards Bend community, traveled to Memphis, Tenn. on June 30, the day of the arrival of President Bush and Prime Minister Koizumi of Japan. The pair posed with The Post as close as they could get to the president -- in front of the sign placed by Mayor Willie W. Herenton welcoming the world leaders to town.

 

Chris Graham, Pollard's Bend community, and his mother Darlene, recently visited Graceland in Memphis. They posed here with The Post just before climbing aboard Elvis Presley's private jet, the Lisa Marie, named after his daughter.

Lauren Bramblett and Jennifer Givens posed with The Post atop the Eiffel Tower in Paris. Visible in the center background is the famous Arc de Triumph, where the Tour de France ends. Lauren and Jennifer spent 10 days in Germany with Cherokee County native Amanda Chamblee Fabbie and her family; they traveled to Paris for a stay over the weekend.

Andy Crow, who works at KTH-Leesburg Products, recently traveled to Leipzig Airport in Germany to meet, for the very first time, two brothers he has never seen in his 50 years on the planet. Crow explained that he was adopted from an orphanage in Germany when he was 11 months old, then moved with his new parents to the United States when he was 3 years old. After a his adoptive parents died in 2005, Crow said he began a five-month search of German adoption agencies to see if he could find his real mother. A short time later, he got some good and bad news. He was told his mother had passed away, but that he had two younger brothers. Here is is above (center) with his two brothers, who are around six years younger.

 

Betty and Billy Pruitt recently traveled to Europe. They took a few moments to pose with The Post in front of St. Paul's Cathedral in London.

Olivia Godshall, Sarah Rachel Patton, Jay Thomas Patton, Mary Katherine Patton, Clay Coker (standing), Jordan Coker, Aubrey Traffanstedt, Caroline Grace Brannon, Cadence Smith Amison and John Thomas Brannon just knew they'd have a lousy time at the beach if they didn't pack along copies of their favorite weekly paper.

Frances Brumbelow, Leesburg, and her family recently traveled out west and stopped off at Yellowstone National Park to pose with The Post.

Matt Pruitt, Jake Lindsey and Lathan Pruitt recently traveled to Maine with their families. Among the sights they saw were the Portland Head Lighthouse and, above, the world's only crib stone (granite) bridge, located on Bailey Island, Maine.

 

Maxine, Jeffery, Joe (Merton) and Chrissy Jones, Centre, visited western Australia this summer and packed along a copy of The Post. Bubba and Candice Crabtree, Centre, traveled to Daytona Beach, Fla. in May to visit Daytona International Speedway, and stopped along the beach to leave their mark in the sand.

 

Wilma Minnix, Centre, recently traveled to Alaska and drove a dog sled. Here, she is pictured with The Post and a sled dog from her team, which was also named Wilma.

 

The Sand Rock 2nd grade class recently posed with dozens of copies of The Post on the 50-yard-line at Russell Jacoway Stadium during the school's Elementary Night festivities. Their signs exclaim, "Extra! Extra! Read All About It! Wildcats Cage Lions." Way to go Wildcats, and way to go Ms. Sabrina Jones' class.

 

Local sign painter Kevin McBay, Centre, owner of the Sign Shop, found a new and unique place to read The Post.

Bret Butler and Erin Ruhsmeyer, Sand Rock, had their picture taken in July 2006 as they snorkeled along the coral reef off the coast of Belize City, Belize in Central America.

Virlyn and Judy Bennett, Cedar Bluff, traveled to Europe in September 2006. During a visit to Edinburgh, Scotland, the two posed with The Post on the deck of the "Brittania," the official yacht (retired) of the British Royal Family.

 

Sherry York, Chattanooga, Tenn., recently traveled to Hawaii. Here she is snorkeling in the Nonolau-Mokuleia Bay Conservation District in West Maui, surrounding by tropical fish.

 

Zander (tongue extended) and Zoey Cook cheesed for the camera at Half Moon Cay off the coast of the Bahamas.

 

Silvia and Julius Ellis, Cedar Bluff, visited Talkeetna, Alaska, and stopped to pose with The Post in front of this "quaint, cute town" during their trip.

Jackie and Jamie Stargell recently celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary with a cruise to Cozumel and Cancun, Mexico.

Eric Ferrell and Julie McGatha Ferrell, Birmingham, recently traveled to Hong Kong to participate in the opening of China's first Curves fitness outlet. Julie is the owner of Curves in Leeds.

This is significant because Tommy is the soldier whose letter from home was published on the front page of the July 31 issue. He is now home safe from Iraq and was able to enjoy some much needed rest and relaxation with his brother and sister-in-law.
