MONTGOMERY – Gov. Bob Riley will speak at a joint public hearing of the Alabama Legislature shortly after the hearing is gaveled into session tonight at 6 p.m.

The public hearing will take place in the historic Old House Chamber at the State Capitol and the entire hearing will be broadcast live on the Internet so citizens can watch it in real-time.

Gov. Riley called legislators in to a special session to pass anti-corruption reform measures that will give Alabama the nation’s toughest ethics laws for public officials and public employees.  Throughout his two terms in office, Riley has pushed for passage of these reforms.  Each year, the Legislature has failed to pass them.

Now that Republicans hold the majority in both the House of Representatives and the Senate, Gov. Riley anticipated that lawmakers are eager to pass anti-corruption reforms.

The draft reform bills are online for public review at www.governor.alabama.gov/.

The hearing will be broadcast live online, also at www.governor.alabama.gov/.
