Cherokee County schools to close at 11:30 a.m. Thurs.

CENTRE — In an attempt to get ahead of impending wintery weather forecast for the next several days, students in the Cherokee County school system will be sent home Thursday at 11:30 a.m. and will not attend classes Friday.

Superintendent Brian Johnson confirmed the closings earlier this afternoon.

“The local EMA updated their weather forecast today at noon, and they are calling for one to one-and-a-half inches of snow in our area” beginning tomorrow afternoon, Johnson told The Post.

Johnson said while the accumulation totals may not sound significant, temperatures are expected to remain in the mid-20s through Monday. The cold and wet could combine to create dangerous road conditions for buses, he said.

“We are going to err on the side of safety,” Johnson said.
