Septic tank workshops to begin in county on Feb. 16

CENTRE — People in Cherokee County who claim to care about the quality of the water in Weiss Lake will soon have a chance to show it through their actions.

The Cherokee County Soil and Water Conservation District, the state Department of Public Health, the Weiss Lake Improvement Association and others are teaming up to host a series of workshops on proper maintenance of household septic tanks.

Anyone in Cherokee County who has a septic tank system is eligible to attend one of the free workshop sessions. Upon completion of the one-hour workshop, participants will receive a voucher for $150 to use towards having their septic system pumped out.

The first workshop will be held at the Broomtown-Rhinehart Volunteer Fire Department Feb. 16. The second will be Feb. 23 at the Leesburg Emergency Shelter adjacent to Leesburg Town Hall. The third will be March 1 in the Chamber of Commerce community room on the campus of Gadsden State Cherokee in Centre.

All workshops begin at 5:30 p.m. Please arrive early to register. Vouchers will be limited to the first 60 participants at each workshop.
