County schools to receive software grant

STAFF REPORTS

CENTRE — Students in Cherokee County will soon begin using math and language software purchased with a grant from the state Board of Education, The Post has learned.

The software was created by The Council for Leaders in Alabama Schools (CLAS) and Learning Through Sports.

The software is the first of its kind and will combine online sports video games and K-8 math and literacy standards-based instruction to motivate students to learn. The software features new technology which will automatically adjust the level of difficulty based on performance. The software, known as "Kid's College," will also help teachers target instruction by providing weekly email reports to quickly identify skill gaps for individual students and groups of teachers.

"Our school system has been on board with Kid's College from the beginning," said Superintendent of Schools Brian Johnson. "I have seen the software in action and our kids love it. Our teachers use the program whenever possible and our students are able to use it at home, as well."
