Wright ties Fagan, 6th grader on WEIS End Zone Show

By KURT DURYEA

Managing Editor Scott Wright tied with Herald Sports Editor Shannon Fagan and an anonymous 6th grader in week two of the WEIS Radio End Zone Show football “pick-‘em” segment “Are You Smarter Than a 6th Grader?” The three of them, along with WEIS sports analyst Nolen Sanford, made their picks live on the air Thursday from the Gridiron Restaurant in Centre.

(To see Wright’s predictions for week two click here.)

The sports celebrities, along with an anonymous 6th grader, pick games involving SEC teams and Jacksonville State.  Fagan, Wright and the 6th grader picked eight winners against two losers. For Fagan and our 6th grader, the week two performance bought their season totals to 17-4. Wright is just a game back at 16-5. Sanford went 7-3 and now sports a 14-7 overall mark.

All of our experts missed on Kentucky’s 24-17 loss to Louisville. Fagan was stumped in the Florida vs. Tennessee game.  Our 6th grader was tripped up in the Auburn loss at Clemson (as was Sanford). Sanford also rolled the dice on Mississippi State over LSU and came up short.  Wright slipped when stepped out to pick Ole Miss to defeat Vanderbilt (the Rebels lost, 27-24).

To hear the “experts” pick against our anonymous 6th grader live at the Gridiron tune into the End Zone Show Thursday night from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. on WEIS 990 AM or live via our Internet stream at www.weis990am.com.  Fans of the show are also invited to join the hosts live at the Gridiron while the show is in progress. The identity of our anonymous 6th grader will be revealed on the final show of the year.

This week listeners will hear the weekly Blast from the Past interview featuring former Gaylesville head coach Jack Jones and quarterback Steve Ray. Jones and Ray guided the Trojans to a 9-1-1 record with Ray under center in 1980, the last time the Trojans won a region (then referred to as area) championship.

The End Zone Show also features the Impact Players of the Week segment where Nolen and co-host Kurt Duryea reveal local players who had outstanding performances the previous week on offense, defense and special teams, as determined by their coaches.
