Centre Blue Sox back on the baseball diamond

LEESBURG The Centre Blue Sox, first organized as an African American youth baseball team in the late 1950s, are returning to the diamond this year after a hiatus of several years.

Playing as members of the adult baseball Fred Horn Industrial League, based in Birmingham, the Blue Sox were scheduled to begin the season on May 11. After a bye on May 18, the Sox return to action at Hooper City on May 19.

The next home game for the Sox is Saturday, May 25 at 3:30 p.m. All Blue Sox home games will be played at the varsity field at Cherokee County High School. Team managers are Jo Jo Bynum and Wally Covington.
