Investigator Danny Smith retires from DA's office

STAFF REPORTS

CENTRE — Cherokee County District Attorney Mike O’Dell last week announced that Investigator Danny Smith retired as of May 31, 2013.

His nearly four decades of service will be remembered for its professionalism and determination, O’Dell said in a press release.

“Danny will be sorely missed in our office,” O’Dell said. “He was my ‘go-to guy’ in all our major cases. No task was too big or too small. His heart was in helping people who were hurting and in need of closure.”

O’Dell said Smith has been involved in many high-profile cases through the years, including capital murder cases of Judith Ann Neelley, Keith Gavin and Barbara Roberts. Smith was recognized in the late 1990s by the State Investigators Association as the Investigator of the Year.

“Danny was respected all over the state for his investigative abilities,” O’Dell said. “It was clearly a recognition of the high esteem his peers had for him.”
