Valley Head defeats Cedar Bluff, 48-27

CEDAR BLUFF — It was a battle of the Tigers Friday night as Valley Head made the trip to L.D. Bruce Field. The visitors defeated Cedar Bluff, 48-27.

Valley Head scored the game's first touchdown on a six play, 37-yard drive with 8:03 remaining in the first quarter. The PAT was no good.

Cedar Bluff came out on all cylinders on their first drive, beginning with a 55-yard kickoff return by Blake Terry. D'Shawn Fife rushed for 30 yards in the drive before Dalton Cosby hit Devante Dixon for a 20-yard touchdown pass. The PAT gave Cedar Bluff a 7-6 advantage midway through the opening quarter.

Valley Head scored its next touchdown on a keeper by quarterback Benjamin Kirby to retake the lead. A successful two-point try made the score 14-7 with 3:46 left in the first.

Cedar Bluff (0-2, 0-1) fumbled the ensuing kickoff right back to Valley Head. Kirby again ended the drive on a quarterback keeper. After another two-point conversion the visitors owned a 22-7 lead.

Jeremy Young, one of the leading ball carriers for Valley Head, went 35 yards for a touchdown, stretching the lead to 28-7. Cedar Bluff senior quarterback Dalton Cosby came out strong on Cedar Bluff's second possession of the second quarter, connecting with three different Tiger receivers before being picked off by Joseph Carden.

Valley Head scored when Kirby connected with Jeremy Young for a 79-yard touchdown pass, giving the Tigers a 34-7 lead.

Cedar Bluff's ensuing possession resulted in a big play when Cosby found Devantae Dixon wide open across the middle for an 80-yard touchdown pass. Cedar Bluff's two-point conversion made the score 34-15.

Still in the second quarter, Valley Head capped a seven-play, 40-yard drive with a Joshua Gregory touchdown for a 42-15 halftime lead.

In the third, Cedar Bluff cut the lead to 42-12 on a 67-yard pass from Cosby to Lucas Miller.

Late in the final quarter, Cosby collided with a Valley Head defender near the goal line and remained motionless as he was examined by trainers. Cosby was carted off the field taken to an area hospital for further evaluation.

Cedar Bluff travels to Jacksonville Christian (1-1, 1-1)Friday night.
